The Argentine youngster, who carries a French passport, is rated at £10 million, with his registration part owned by an investment company.
Milan transfers chief Ariedo Braida is currently in Buenos Aries to meet with River officials about Higuain. However, it's emerged today that the player's Dad and his agent, Roberto Recasens, were spotted in Madrid earlier this week, fueling talk that they were meeting with Real Madrid officials.

Under-fire Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder has been tipped to move for Real Madrid firebrand Antonio Cassano on loan in January.
Italian international Cassano has failed to establish himself at the Bernabeu, and a string of rows with manager Fabio Capello have left him out of the first team picture.
Real are keen to send the striker out on loan in January, with a view to a permanent sale at the end of the season.
Roeder has led the Magpies to their worst start to a Premiership season, taking just eight points from 11 matches. Despite the £10million acquisition of Obafemi Martins from Inter Milan, Newcastle have scored just seven league goals, and Roeder knows he must add quality to his forward line.
With Roeder's future at St. James's Park increasingly uncertain, the Toon board are reluctant to spend massive amounts on transfers, and as such a loan move for 24-year-old could suit all parties

With a billion euros in their pockets from selling their TV rights for the next six years, Real Madrid are the new rich kids on the block. According to Italian Il Corriere dello Sport, Real Madrid Chairman Ramón Calderón is trying to keep the promise he made during the campaign that made him chairman of Real Madrid; He wants to buy AC Milan superstar Kaká. The chairman is believed to make a worldrecord breaking bid of 140 million euros.
Any transfer for that amount of money will break the current record, also in hands of Los Galacticos, for Zinedine Zidane who transferred from Juventus to Real Madrid for 73 million euros back in 2001.
If it is up to Calderón, that record will be broken soon. Kaká recently extended his contract until 2011 with Milan but in Madrid he could make up to 10 million a year.
People at Real Madrid aren’t very happy with Calderón’s bragging. His bragging could make it hard to seal any deals in the near future since now alot of clubs will negotiate with dollar signs in their eyes. Recently technical director Pedrag Mijatovic had already noticed the consequences when he tried to negotiate the transfers of Fernando Gago and Gonzalo Higuaín.

Boca Juniors midfielder Fernando Gago has agreed to personal terms with Real Madrid and is waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement on his transfer.
Madrid sports director Predrag Mijatovic has asked Gago's agent, Marcelo Lombilla, to press Boca Juniors president Mauricio Macri to allow the player to move during January's transfer window, sports daily As said Thursday.
Macri, who is reportedly asking for US$34.2 million for the 20-year-old midfielder, wants him to remain until June so he can play in the Copa Libertadores.
Madrid president Ramon Calderon hopes to complete Gago's transfer before the club's general assembly on Sunday.

David Beckham won't consider signing a new contract with Real Madrid unless he can be convinced he will playing regularly.
Both Real president Ramon Calderon and coach Fabio Capello want Beckham secured to a two-year deal and the England international is happy to put pen to paper - but only if he receives assurances he will spend most of the next two years on the pitch.
Capello spoke with Becks this week at Real's training HQ in Valdebebas, assuring the midfielder of his confidence in him. But as a source close to the player told AS: "His ideal solution is staying in Madrid. But if Capello doesn't pick him, then he'll soon be on a plane out of there."
